Sunday, January 8th to Thursday, January 12th, 2017
This program is an annual event sponsored by Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snowsports and Mt. Washington Resort on Vancouver Island. It is traditionally held in the second week of January.
This program is offered to people with learning challenges who would like to expand their horizons and learn an exhilarating sport which can become a lifelong family activity.
Anyone over the age of six years and who has some ability to learn is welcome. We offer novice lessons in downhill, snowboard or cross country skiing as well as a ski improvement segment if you have some experience.
We are able to accept a maximum of 25 students; however " first time" applicants will be given priority in selection of participants.
Applications submission period is closed for the 2017 festival. Try again next year or check out our Have-a-go program.
This annual event hosted by Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snowsport (VISAS) and Mount Washington Resort on Vancouver Island is sponsored by the Canadian Armed Forces Soldier On program that seeks athletic opportunities for ill or injured service men and women.
The Ski Week provides the opportunity for ill or injured members of the Canadian Armed Forces from across the country to return to a sport they may once have enjoyed or to introduce them to a winter sport which may become a lifelong family actively.
VISAS is a volunteer group of 90 Alpine, Nordic and Snowboard instructors, many of whom are retired military members and all of them are dedicated to “bringing the mountain” to people with disabilities. We are a non-profit organization focused on providing nationally certified instructors to assist physically or mentally challenged individuals. We offer instruction in downhill, snowboard and cross country and provide all adaptive equipment.
VISAS has worked with veterans for 13 years. This year, 22 Canadian and 10 Australian active military members or veterans will be part of this challenging and exciting week on the snow.
This ski week has been made possible with the support of:
We are looking forward to seeing you on the snow!
The Herb Bradley Challenge is one of VISAS's fund raising events of the year.
On the second Sunday of March we invite businesses, service clubs and individuals willing to support us to come to the mountain and participate in our HBC Poker Run event
The entry fee for the event is $100 for each participant. The teams are made of three or four people selected by the sponsor and one VISAS student who will be your team captain. As each team member crosses the finish line of a slalom course that is run over a very gentle slope, they will receive a playing card. If the whole team is only four people (three sponsored individuals), the team captain will get two cards The format of the poker game is DRAW poker, if a team is not satisfied with the hand they are dealt, they may exchange up to two cards at one of the two on-hill stations on two of the runs on the mountain (to be designated on race day.)
The day also includes a buffet lunch and an awards ceremony. Each team individual receives an all-day lift pass, tickets for the buffet, and door prize draw tickets… and the guarantee that the day will be a lot of fun.
