This new annual event hosted by Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snow sports (VISAS) and Mount Washington Alpine Resort on Vancouver Island is sponsored by VISAS through support and grants to help support Ill and injured military veterans and their caregiver through snow sports.
This snow week provides the opportunity for ill or injured Veterans and caregivers from Manitoba to British Columbia to return to a sport they may once have enjoyed or to introduce them to a winter sport which may become a lifelong family activity. This week long event will be financially covered with exceptions of the travel costs to get to and from our location. Our goal is to have a fun, inclusive safe week with many positive experiences.
Background to your VISAS Team.
VISAS is a volunteer group of 100 Alpine, Nordic and Snowboard instructors, many of whom are retired military veterans and all of them are dedicated to bringing the mountain experience to people with disabilities. The VISAS team has worked with veterans for many years and we want you to accept our challenge through some snow therapy. We are a non-profit organization focused on providing nationally certified instructors to assist physically or cognitively challenged people. We offer instruction in downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross country skiing. VISAS will provide all adaptive equipment and if you have your own, then we can help you rock it.
This ski week has been made possible with the support of:
- True Patriot Love
- Royal Canadian Legions
- Brian McLeans Chevrolet
- 19 Wing Comox Military Family Resource Centre
- Crown Isle Golf and country club resort
- Other local business and private donations
- Mount Washington Alpine Resort
We are looking forward to seeing you on the snow! Applications will be coming out in early December.
