VETERANS’ SKI WEEK

Monday January 27th to friday January 31st 2020

This annual event hosted by Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snowsports (VISAS) and Mount Washington Alpine Resort on Vancouver Island is sponsored by the Canadian Armed Forces Soldier On program that seeks athletic opportunities for ill or injured service men and women.

The Ski Week provides the opportunity for ill or injured members of the Canadian Armed Forces from across the country to return to a sport they may once have enjoyed or to introduce them to a winter sport which may become a lifelong family actively.

VISAS is a volunteer group of 90 Alpine, Nordic and Snowboard instructors, many of whom are retired military members and all of them are dedicated to bringing the mountain to people with disabilities. We are a non-profit organization focused on providing nationally certified instructors to assist physically or mentally challenged individuals. We offer instruction in downhill, snowboard and cross country and provide all adaptive equipment.

VISAS has worked with veterans for over 15 years. Last season, 29 Canadian active military members or veterans were part of this challenging and exciting week on the snow. This season we will be hosting 20 Canadians and 10 Australians.

This ski week has been made possible with the support of:

  • Soldier On Program
  • the Comox, Courtenay, and Lantzville branches of the Royal Canadian Legion
  • local community business and private donations
  • and Mount Washington Alpine Resort

We are looking forward to seeing you on the snow!
