This four-day event is held each January, and is a fun introduction to adaptive snowsports for people of all ages and abilities on the slopes & trails at Mt Washington Alpine Resort.
The Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snowsports (VISAS) is looking for people with physical or developmental challenges, who are age six (6) years and older as of January 1st, 2023.
The Festival is open to participants new to adaptive snowsports who want to learn to ski, snowboard, or cross-country (Nordic) ski. As part of the festival, VISAS will provide you with:
- Lift passes and rental equipment (courtesy of Mount Washington)
- Four days of on-snow instruction from CADS certified ski, snowboard and Nordic instructors
- And specialized adaptive equipment suited to your disability
Please note:
- Preference will be given to applicants with no experience with adaptive snowsports
- Preference will also be given to Have-a-Go participants and other beginner skiers & snowboarders who haven’t been to the Winter Snowsports Festival before
- Sit-Ski and Bi-Ski skiers will always be accompanied by two instructors
- The number of students accepted will depend upon available equipment, and the number of volunteer instructors on hand to teach during the week
- Up to a maximum of 10 for Alpine Skiing/Snowboarding and 4 Nordic applicants will be accepted.
Snowsport Lessons:
- Will run from 10 am to noon, and again from 1 pm until 3 pm Monday to Thursday
- Lunch is not provided.
The festival does not cover the following:
JANUARY 2nd – 5th, 2023
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: December 18th, 2022. Successful applicants will be notified by December 22nd, 2022.
